Hobbies

This is my hobbies section.  Here I'll talk about things that interest me, and things I do in my spare time.

I've had an interest in woodworking for as long as I can remember.  My grandfather instilled a love for it (as well as a few skills) starting way back when I was young.  He and I would putter around in his shop in Lubbock every time we'd go to visit the grandparents.  As I grew older, I got a little more advanced until I was in junior high school and had the opportunity to take a wood shop class.  Needless to say, I loved it.  First semester was spent learning how to draft and make plan drawings.  Second semester was actually building some of the project we had drawn up during the fall semester.  During that spring semester, while most kids in the class struggled to finish a single (and sometimes simple) project, I built three!  I built a trophy cabinet for the band, then built some cabinets for the utility room, and finished up by building a stand for a 40 gallon aquarium I had back in those days.  I even submitted plans for a 4th project and worked out a schedule with the shop teacher over the summer to build a bedroom wall unit that I still use today.

At the time of this writing, I've recently purchased some new woodworking machinery and am really looking forward to getting back out there and making stuff.  I'll use this section to talk about my projects and equipment and maybe pass along some information to those that might also be interested in woodworking.

Well, there she is!  My Battle Wagon.  My Urban Assault Vehicle.  My can-do-anything-I-need-and-a-lot-more truck.  She's a 2001 Ford F-350 Super Duty Crew Cab with Lariat trim package, beige leather interior, two-tone paint and 8' bed.  She has a 7.3 liter (444 cubic inch) Powerstroke V8 turbo diesel, 6-speed manual transmission, and 4 wheel drive.  Her 38-gallon diesel tank will get me at least 530 miles down the road, and if I keep my foot out of it, I can get close to 580.  Not too shabby for a vehicle that weighs in at around 8,500 pounds.  Sane highway driving yields around 17.5 to 18.5 mpg (and sane means keeping the cruise control set so the engine RPMs don't go over 2,000), and city driving is around 14.5.  Fuel economy has become much more of a focus for me here lately - mainly because of absolutely insane diesel prices recently.  So I try to keep my foot out of it as much as possible to help raise fuel economy.

Here are a few more pictures.

So, as you can see, this is the section that I'll use to talk about my truck and all the modifications and tweaks I've done to it.  Check out the links below for more information.
