On Thanksgiving day, we were invited out to Arroyo City.  My mom's cousin and family own a fishing camp up there, and they had invited us to come out since they were going to be there.  It was kind of cool, too, because I got to meet my second cousins from that side of the family for the first time as adults.  The last time I had seen Peyton and Katie was at our great grandmother's funeral back in 1988 or 1989.  Anyway, the Arroyo is a roughly 45 minute drive from the island, and the Arroyo Colorado actually serves as the Harlingen ship channel.  It is kind of a misnomer, though, since barges are really the biggest traffic that goes (or can fit ) on it.  Anyway, Sandy had done a WHOLE LOT of work to the place since I'd seen it last back in the '90s.  Before, it was just a little shack with a relatively nice dock and boat shed.  Now, it is a full-blown house with lots of space, multiple bedrooms, 2 stories and all the latest appliances.  He really did a bang-up job on it.  It was really nice to see that side of the family - I hadn't seen them in years.  We had a great Thanksgiving meal, and Peyton and Katie joined Derek, James and I out on the dock for some afternoon fishing.  Leave it up to the old folks, though....they were tired and ready to leave (or maybe they were sick of watching the UT game...) just as the night fishing was starting to pick up.  We actually caught a couple of small trout before it was time to leave.  But it was probably best that we leave, anyway, because we had a big morning of bay fishing the next day.

Here are some pictures of the Arroyo visit.  We thought it was fitting, too, that since it was Thanksgiving day that a group of wild turkeys decided to pay us a visit.  They should've considered themselves lucky that we already had the bird for the table!
