Monday the 24th was our scheduled offshore fishing trip.  I won't spend a whole lot of time on this story, as it was kind of a dud.  The main reason:  the captain, while he always appeared to be working hard, really wasn't.  And Igor the Deckhand was a blathering, unprofessional, lazy idiot.  He was drinking beer and sleeping a lot of the time rather than trying to help us catch more fish.  In short, the trip was a 10 hour $1,000 boat ride.  Yeah, we caught some fish, but they were only bonito - definitely not the fish we had hoped to catch.  James did catch a small shark on some cut bait (some of the bonito we caught earlier in the day), which was kind of the highlight of the day.  But we were hoping for tuna, dorado (also known as dolphin and mahi mahi) and/or mackerel.  Bonito are pretty to look at and fun to catch, but worthless beyond that.  We wanted to catch our dinner that day, but we didn't succeed.

After an early start that morning, we hit the Whataburger for some breakfast burritos.  Turns out they were wasted on James - and luckily we had bought the Dramamine the previous day.  As we approached the jetties and the seas started to get rough, he was really enjoying himself.  He even enjoyed the ride while we were running at cruise speed.  But the problems for him came when we were down at trolling speed or had slowed to fight a fish.  We felt sorry for James, and he spewed up the first round of Dramamine we gave him, but after that he laid down and had a nap and felt better the rest of the day.  But it still didn't help him avoid his new nickname:  Captain Hurley.  Cool

Supposedly the weather had been bad the previous week, and we were one of the first boats to go offshore in about a week.  The water was still pretty muddy the whole trip - and we made it out to 45 miles offshore.  Even out there the water was still a little too green to hold the blue water fish like tuna.  It was unfortunate for us, especially since the trip cost so much.  But we had a good time anyway and made the best of it.  I've included some pictures below of the day's trip.  Most of the pictures were taken by Derek, but I took the last three.
