Oia (left) and Imerovigli (right) as seen from Fira on Santorini. The clouds provided some interesting shadows on the bluffs below Imerovigli.
Santorini's lagoon as seen from Fira with Nea Kameni and Therasia (island to the right), along with the two ships in port that day: the Star Princess (left) and the Brilliance of the Seas.
A Greek Orthodox church (interstingly without the signature blue dome) and the Hotel Atlantis. Sort of fitting, since the legend of Atlantis likely stems from the huge volcanic eruption on Santorini 3,600 years ago.
A clash of old and modern. One of the guys leading a line of donkeys back to the top of the hill and talking on his cell phone.
A train of donkeys being brought back to the top of the hill to carry folks back down to the bottom.
On the docks of Fira waiting for a tender back to the ship. It is almost 1,000 feet to the top up there!
Another view looking generally north from the docks at Fira. Our ship, the Brilliance of the Seas, is to the left.
Looking back at a portion of Fira and the bluffs from the ship. The cable cars and the walking/donkey path are visible.
I apologize for ruining a perfectly good Santorini sunset. Thanks to Rebecca Sizemore for shooting this pic.
